Project Description

This project was part of Bowditch Middle School’s major $86.7 million, four-phase construction project, which added new facilities, including a drama building, science building, locker room, media/support center building, and gymnasium to the existing school. The Science and Drama buildings were part of the first phase, creating a new academic core with nineteen new classrooms. Completion of all four phases is anticipated by 2026. Bowditch Middle School is part of the San Mateo-Foster City School District, educating students in Math, Science, English, Social Studies, and College/Career Exploration.

Pragmatic PE handled the fire protection services for the first phase of the new construction project, providing engineering and design services for the installation of a new wet-pipe automatic fire sprinkler system. Key features of the fire sprinkler systems engineered by Pragmatic PE include:

• The new Drama building

• The new Science building

• Walkway canopies

Pragmatic PE efficiently conducted site research before producing 2D and 3D sprinkler system designs using AutoSPRINK and Revit. The full services provided included design services for the new fire sprinkler system, shop drawings, Foreman’s Print, and a fabrication list.
