Solar4America Ice Rink Expansion includes a 4,000 seat AHL stadium
rink (Rink 6) with adjoining practice rink (Rink 5) and commissary building complete with locker rooms, commissary kitchen, concessions, ice chiller plant supporting both rinks, large scale restroom facilities, and a professional locker room. This expansion increases the existing complex from 145,000 sq ft to nearly 400,000 sq ft. The project will receive a LEED Silver rating when completed.
Pragmatic Professional Engineers designed and coordinated the entire mechanical system utilizing Autodesk Revit 2018. Rink 5 consists of one desiccant air-handling unit serving the rink along with an outdoor rated ducted furnace serving the first-floor locker rooms, two single-zone package units, two split systems, and a number of exhaust fans.
The HVAC system in Rink 6 includes two desiccant air-handling units, tied to an exposed, looped, spiral ductwork, along with a number of grease fans and dedicated split systems. The ice sheet alone is estimated to provide the rink with 125-tons of cooling!
