Kihapai Hale is a low-rise residential building composed of six floors with a total of 35 residential units. The building sits on top of two parcels of land; one which houses the residences and the other which supports the multi-level parking garage.
Pragmatic Professional Engineers designed the Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing and Fire Protection systems utilizing 3-dimensional design software, Revit MEP. BIM 360 Design Document was used to collaborate, in real-time, with the architectural and structural 3-dimension building models. While performing the engineering work in-house, Pragmatic PE was able to perform clash detection between all the trades, to avoid risks associated with the conduits, pipes, and ductwork occupying the same space in the field.
Several energy saving techniques were implemented, including utilizing energy recovery ventilators, heat recovery between the building cooling and domestic hot water heating systems, and high-efficiency heatpumps for ventilation air delivery. The systems were sized and selected to achieve a LEED Platinum Certification.
