Project Description
This project involved the renovation of West Valley College's Learning Resource Center (LRC), originally constructed in 1972. The LRC, covering 59,134 square feet, supports a variety of programs and services, including library collections, a digital media center, a TV/recording studio, a writing center, a tutorial/assessment center, multiple technology-rich collaboration spaces, a makerspace, gaming studios, and librarian services/offices.
The renovation was extensive and comprehensive, including improvements to the exterior building skin/façade to enhance visibility and daylight, the incorporation of a new roof with north-facing light monitors, upgrades to technology and building systems, completely re-envisioned program spaces and functional adjacencies based on student needs, and fully updated interiors and furniture. The design of this new center for learning is transformative and inclusive, ultimately making the LRC a beacon of learning for all students on campus.
Pragmatic Professional Engineers provided design services for the new fire sprinkler system, which included the DSA permit submittal package, BIM coordination, shop drawings, and fabrication lists using the client's preferred design program, AutoSPRINK.
