Project Description
Pragmatic Professional Engineers (PPE) provided a comprehensive plumbing and process piping design for the sixth and seventh floors of the Longfellow Spec Lab at 1800 Owens Street in San Francisco, CA, ensuring seamless integration of critical systems for both single and double tenant spaces.
PPE modeled the entire project using 3D Revit and performed BIM coordination with other trades to facilitate seamless project integration. A major milestone for the Plumbing Division, PPE used Dewalt Hanger Works Pro for the first time to model hangers, provide Trimble points, and generate a detailed bill of materials for piping and hangers.
This innovative use of technology enabled the installing contractor to accurately determine the precise locations for drilling hangers and plumbing penetrations into the deck. Furthermore, the bill of materials allowed them to arrive on site fully prepared with the correct materials, streamlining the installation process significantly and reducing delays.
The project also involved inheriting and adapting existing Southland Revit models to meet specific requirements. The level 6 model was revised to accommodate independent water heating and supply systems for each tenant space. Additionally, plans for level 5 were adjusted for Siren Systems improvements. Close coordination with architectural and structural teams ensured smooth clash detection and resolution through multiple BIM coordination meetings. The entire workflow was executed using 3D Revit, ensuring precise modeling and enhanced collaboration.
The successful use of Dewalt Hanger Works Pro and Trimble integration meant that hangers and deck penetrations were placed with exceptional accuracy, contributing to a smoother construction phase. The plumbing and process piping systems were optimized for tenant needs, and the BIM coordination efforts minimized potential disruptions on site. Pragmatic PE's comprehensive, technology-driven approach ensured a highly functional and sustainable laboratory space for Longfellow's tenants.
